May 18, 2005
I’m moving faster this time around..so many blogs..so little time…here you go..another
blogger harrased…errr…i mean interviewed..;)

Blog Url: Bits of Abdul
Name: Abdul Rehman
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Location: Huddersfield, England
1. When did u start your blog?
I started my blog on the eve of the New Year, but started posting and taking it
somewhat serious in February.
2. Did anyone inspire you to Start a blog?
Yes, and no. I got into this blogging world by frequently reading an Islamic blog
run by a sister who goes by the name of Maryam. I was a frequent reader for about 2
years or so, and I always wanted to make my own. As I started my graphic design
diploma last year, all of a sudden I wanted someplace online where I can show my
work [temp. portfolio] and so I went about making my own blog.
3. What powers your Blog? (blogger/wordpress..etc..)
Ah, at the moment I’m
using Blogger. Hopefully once I get the time and money, the blog will be hosted on
my ‘official’ online portfolio and powered by WordPress. (Would you care to donate?)
4. Name 3 blogs that inspire/captivate/captures yr attention.
For fun times and a laugh, it’ll be The Smokers blog. Very entertaining. The rest
are just boring old graphic design blogs.
5. Your Fav Music
I don’t have a favourite, but umm … can we skip this question?
Ok, thanks.
6. Do You Blog regularly?
I try to blog as regularly as I can. You see, with many blogs out there, they blog
so much that over time it gets boring. I try to find a balance when bloggin’ as I
don’t want to overbore the readers or put them off with lack of interest. I do find
myself blogging atleast once a week though, and sometimes it’ll be personal, a
random thought, or something work/school related.
7. How many friends of yours Blog too?
Umm none. Yeah, nada. My little brother has one though, but he’s still trying to
figure how to create a new post.
8. Did you design your own Blog?
Again yes, and no. I got the Kubrick template and since then, I’ve customised it
myself. If I was to change the body and footer, you wouldn’t even be able to tell I
started with the Kubrick template. The header
goes under constant mutation and the comments have been tweaked many times. You’ll
find that every now and then, I try and tweak something better, with the intention
of learning some more HTML, or CSS if needs be.
9. What do you think makes your blog interesting?
Well I don’t really like to get big headed but I’ve had many questions about my blog
and also graphic design via my blog. I think I try to promote the world of graphic
design through a graphic design students life hence trying to get more people into
it. The fact that there is no set agenda and you can find almost everything on
almost every subject on my blog creates a variety and interest. Of course, I get
some of my work up as I complete it, adding bits of sparks whenever I do.
10. Your advice for people just beginning to start a blog…..
First thing I would
say is don’t rush into it. A blog is just like creating a website. You need a plan,
a sketch, an initial idea of what you want to blog about. Only then you can go about
creating a successful blog. Take it from me, I started with no intention at all and
had no readers. Then a few months back when I set the agenda to graphic design and
my life, “pow”, the traffic got rapid. So yeah, get an idea, and take it slow. With
time and patience, comes everything.
11. 5 years from now..do u think u will still be blogging?
Of course. One change would be though that it would be a journal on my official
online portfolio and this time not about a students life, but the life of a graphic
designer. Intentions are to also get a forum too for avid readers to join in
discussions and create their own. But heck, let’s not get too carried away now. Next
question
please.
12. The future of Blogs…..where would it lead to? in your opinion.
I think blogging is going to be something massive. Many people have come across it
and are even using it as a medium to advertise themsevles [products, services]. With
the increase of RSS, blogging is going to be on the continuos rise. I’ve seen
directors and maganers with blogs, designers of course, students, teenagers …
whatever the heck next. The President? I don’t think it’ll take over newspapers and
magazines, but it’ll be another medium that we can reach these things on.
13. your motto in life
Hmm my moto … I’d say “Live to learn, and learn to live.”
14. If you were not blogging you would……..
I don’t know, I guess I’d be creating my website. But the thing is that I don’t know
much HTML and CSS, and I think
blogging has greatly increased my knowledge in this and so I don’t think I wouldn’t
be blogging at all.
15. Google…what do You think about Google?
A monster, absolute monster!
16. What do You think Makes your Blog Special?
Well I wouldn’t really know. Although I’ve seen a huge increase in traffic lately, I
think everything on it is special. If I really have to say something, I would say
that I personalise everything. Yeah, I blog everything from within.
17. what is your blog mainly about?
Graphic design and my life.
18. Decribe your blog in less than 500 words…
Ouch, I didn’t pass my English so don’t be expecting any long words, haha. However,
yesterday I asked a web designer (we exchange services, I do print design for him
for free, and he says he’ll help me out with
HTML and CSS problems) and he said that he’ll sum it up in six letters [he said
words first the dummy]. “P.E.R.F.E.C.T.” Capiche?
