Best Blogging Software

Best Blogging Software by Miles Evans
The blogging platform wars are getting really interesting and much of the discussion I find myself in lately revolves around what is happening with various CMS systems. The market can essentially be defined into 3 major camps: remotely hosted, self hosted, and community based systems. I have used pretty much every blogging platform available and each of them has its ups and downs. In this article I will cover the best options for each area taking into account price, usability, market share and of course SEO potential.
All of these products are either open source, completely free or have a functional free version. Links were stripped from this article so you may want to check out the original best blogging software article at ProfitPapers.
Remotely Hosted Blogging Software (Note: I cannot really recommend any of these from an SEO stand point as optimizing a domain you do not own or control is obviously not a good marketing plan.)
Blogger is completely free and currently owns the majority of the remotely hosted user base, but not by a land slide . Bought out by Google in 1999, Blogger essentially fired up the blogging trend we see today. It is by far the easiest overall solution to use and if you are a novice user looking to throw up some recipes or poetry, this is for you. Blogger is completely free and includes some great features like comments, photo blogging, and a basic community feel with user profiles. Because it is so dumbed down there are some features you may not find with Blogger that are only available through 3rd party add-ons. As a side note Blogger weblogs do quite well in the search engines and this was recently exploited with it being the first choice for spam blogs or splogs. A splog is a weblog used for the sole purpose of gaining inbound links or generating thousands of keyword stuffed pages with Adsense and the like. The recent Google Jagger update cleared a large portion of this up. Free.

Techniques to get More Traffic to your weblog
November 13, 2005
by Ashish Thakkar
A)Blogging page no different from a website page.
Many Bloggers believe that posting blogs regularly is the best and only way to get the blog promotion. While posting a blog entry they forget that the resulting page will be no different than the html and php webpages they used to create for their website. The basic SEO rules for the blog page is same for a page created in html or asp or any other language. It is therefore necessary to give importance to tags and links while making a blog entry.Example :
-Keep the title small.Make sure it includes the keyword you think your users will use while make a search.
-Use and tags to your keyword in the page.
-Make sure you use well anchored text with keyword and that no links go to a 404 page not found. If a page is not available make sure that the 404 goes to sitemap page or notifies user of the problem.
-Make the content rich and big in size(do not keep it small) and make sure that there is no keyword spam in the blog entry.
-Use links to post on blogs on your website. Also allow the search facility so that users can search the blog from your website.
Note that the only advantage of a Blog over a simple page is that the blog will get indexed faster.
B)Blogging and pinging.
To get the best out of your blog you need to blog regularly.Make a schedule and try to stick to it.It is best to Blog everyday with fresh and rich content to get visitors rushing to your site.Although it is best adviced to blog on a daily basis it should be noted that blogging stale 5 line content will not help you in any way.It is therefore better that you are Blogging 2-3 time a week with new and rich content with properly formatted html. If you are using a script like Blogger.com for blogging make sure that you are pinging sites. This will tell them that your blog has been updated. You may also ping sites manually.Below are the list of sites you can ping :

SEO Duplicate Web Content Penalty Myth Exploded
October 28, 2005
The “duplicate content penalty” myth is one of the biggest obstacles I face in getting web professionals to embrace reprint content. The myth is that search engines will penalize a site if much of its content is also on other websites.
Clarification:
there is a real duplicate content penalty for content that is duplicated with minor or no variation across the pages of a single site. There is also a “mirror” penalty for a site that is more or less substantially duplicating another single site. What I’m talking about here is the reprint of pages of content individually, rather than in a mass, on multiple sites.
Another clarification: “penalty” is a loaded concept in SEO. “Penalty” means that search engines will punish a website for violations of the engine’s terms of service. The punishment can mean making it less likely that the site will appear in search results. Punishment can also mean removal from the search engine’s index of web pages (”de-indexing” or “delisting”).
How have I exploded the “duplicate content penalty” myth?
* PageRank. Many thousands of high-PageRank sites reprint content and provide content for reprint. The most obvious case is the news wires such as Reuters (PR
and the Associated Press (PR 9) that reprint to sites such as http://www.nytimes.com (PR 10).
* The proliferation of content reprint sites. There are now hundreds of websites devoted to reprint content because it’s a cheap, easy magnet for web traffic, especially search engine traffic.
* Experience. I’ve seen significant search engine traffic both from distributing content to be reprinted and from reprinting content on the site.
