‘Voltron’ Movie is Being Made for Real

August 18, 2008

Another day, another chance for Hollywood to hastily scrape the lining of the 1980s’ uterus, hoping something they can rake out will resemble a movie if they project some light through it. This time: Voltron.

Fox-based New Regency has put robot project “Voltron: Defender of the Universe” into turnaround.

Ryan Kavanaugh’s financing and production venture Relativity Media is in negotiations to back the property, though on a more moderate budget, utilizing the type of cost-effective technology employed in films including “300.”

Last summer, New Regency picked up the rights to the property, adapted by scribe Justin Marks, who’s behind Warner Bros.’ bigscreen versions of “He-Man” and “Green Arrow.”

Marks’ take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth’s invaders.

The worst part will be when I see the trailer in the theater and inevitably hear some kids talking about how it looks like a Power Rangers rip-off. “Hey, idiots, Voltron was around first! No, you’re an old nerd!”

18k Gold Plated Mobile Phone Watch

August 18, 2008

18k-cell-phone-watchAlthough mobile phone watches have been available for a while, I have never actually had chance to use one yet. The slightly larger then normal watches have a SIM card slot in which you put your regular SIM and then you can make and take calls from your watch.

The latest mobile phone watch I came across just now is a Bluetooth multimedia phone watch that also comes plated in 18k gold. It features a 1.5 inch touch screen display which is colour. 1GB of memory is included in this phone and it also sports a 1.3 megapixel camera. Calls are made and received through a bluetooth headset which you pair with the mobile. I assume that this headset can also be used to listen to audio with too.

Exposed Flip Clock

August 13, 2008

exposed-flip-clockA number of ways of telling time are available such as a sun dial, pendulum clock, digital clocks and watches. The latest clock to appear is the Exposed Flip Clock which looks extremely unique as it’s innards are exposed for all to see.

The Flip Clock is just like any regular old fashioned flip click which has small plates that rotate against a bent metal finger and when the clock rotates to a certain point the next plate drops down to reveal the next minute or hour. With this clock you also get to see the insides though which includes seeing the gears and everything else that keeps the thing ticking.

The Exposed Flip Clock is available from ThinkGeek and costs $59.99.

Exposed Flip Clock Details

* Battery powered alarm “flip” style clock
* 24 hour alarm
* Remarkably precise
* Requires 2 “C” cell batteries (not included)
* 17.5cm x 6cm x 9cm
